Late in the evening, a container ship carrying a load of fruit arrives at the port of Rotterdam. The ship needs to be unloaded as quickly as possible. The container handling company has three cranes available: A, B, and C. However, to save costs, the boss wants to assign only two crane operators to do the work. He calculates how quickly the load can be unloaded with two of the cranes. The results are as follows:
- With cranes A and B, the ship can be unloaded in 2 hours.
- With cranes B and C, the ship can be unloaded in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- With cranes A and C, the ship can be unloaded in 3 hours and 36 minutes.
To further reduce costs, the boss decides to deploy only one crane operator.
